Dear Honorable Paolino Jr.,

My name is Matthew Winick from Ann Arbor, Michigan with a strong interest in learning history with public policy. In these subjects, I like to learn the need to make Civil Rights stronger, protect the environment from pollution, and many others. Honorable Paolino Jr., the main reason I’m writing you a letter is to explain how I find your work as 33rd Mayor of Providence, Rhode Island and as U.S. Ambassador to Malta to be very inspiring to me.

When you served as 33rd Mayor of Providence, Rhode Island I liked on how you were a strong supporter of Civil Rights by advocating for people with disabilities’ rights, supporting funds to help women including minorities businesses compete in the economy, and expressing the need for women including minorities and people with disabilities to be protected from being discriminated in jobs including education.  Also I liked on how you were an advocate for the need for criminal justice reform like have drug treatment programs to help drug-users get the care they need, provide community services for non-violent offenders including non-violent juveniles to help them rehabilitate to reduce re-offending, and work with law enforcement to find ways to reduce racial profiling to protect minorities’ rights.  On education, I was very proud on how you expand funds to improve special education to help students with disabilities get educational resources they need and provide after school programs to help students get help on their assignments or help them from turning to crime. Another thing that I liked about your role as Mayor of Providence, Rhode Island is how you pushed for funds to clean up water resources including rivers form toxic chemicals to make them safe for people to use, implemented job-training programs to help train youth including workers to develop job-skills, supported building a new Amtrak Station to help improve transportation for people to travel safely, and expanded construction for neighborhoods including low-income areas to help improve living conditions.  In your role as U.S. ambassador to Malta, I was very proud on how you worked with President Bill Clinton to find ways to improve relations between the U.S. and Malta. Also  in your role as U.S. Ambassador, I liked on how you worked with U.S. Intelligence agencies to  facilitate an investigation of the Pan Am 103 crash, worked on getting American corporations to do businesses with Malta to improve trade relations while find ways to make products safe, and worked with Malta government to find ways to allow U.S. Navy ships to allowed in their waters to repair our allies with them.

Honorable Paolino Jr., I have autism with a learning disability. Having a disability is hard for me because I have trouble comprehending on learning different subjects, sometimes I struggle to communicate my thoughts, and get teased.   Your commitment to be a strong supporter of Civil Rights including people with disabilities’ rights really inspires me to work hard on my disability.   On Paolino Properties website, I enjoy reading your articles about the need to protect the environment, push for affordable housing to help people who are low-income or people who can’t afford to live, and many others.  Your role as Mayor of  Providence, Rhode Island and your role as U.S. Ambassador to Malta motivates me to have a strong interest in continuing to learn history with public policy. My future goal is to someday work in public policy or work in a history job area to help emphasize the need to make Civil Rights stronger, protect the environment, and many others.

I strongly believe that you made a great difference in your role as mayor and as U.S. Ambassador.  I’m very proud on how you worked hard to make society a better place and improve our relations with another country. You have inspired me to work hard on my disability and to continue to learn history with public policy,  I was wondering if you could please share with me what it was like being Mayor of Providence, Rhode Island  and your role as U.S. Ambassador.  Thanks for taking the time to read my letter, making great achievements, and inspiring me.  I wish you well for the future.

Sincerely,

Matthew B. Winick
