Dear Mayor Liccardo,

My name is Matt Winick from Ann Arbor, Michigan with a strong interest in history and public policy.   In these subjects I like to learn the need to advance on Civil Rights to help protect people who are different from being discriminated, improve education to help people including students learn better in the educational environment, protect the environment from pollution, and many others.  The main reason I’m writing you a letter is because I find your work as current 65th Mayor of San Jose, California to be very inspiring to me.

In your current role as Mayor of San Jose, California, I am very proud on how you are a strong supporter of advancing Civil Rights  by advocating for people with disabilities’ rights, supporting funding women with minorities businesses to help them compete in the economy, working with minorities communities including Asian Americans to help them get assistance to help their community get the care they need, express the need for women to heave equal pay to help protect them from being discriminated in pay, and support LGBT rights.   On the environment, I like on how you support funds for renewable energy projects to help reduce addiction to oil with gas, encourage businesses including tech companies to use energy efficient products to reduce high energy cost, provide funds to help clean parks with rivers including drinking water to make them safe for people to use, and expand funds to help farmers deal with drought. Funding special education to help students with disabilities get educational accommodations they need to learn, expanding after school programs to help youth get help on their assignments or reduce their chance of getting involved in a crime, funding the arts including history to help make education diverse, partnering with tech companies to find ways to make educational software be efficient for students to learn is common sense and a great way to make education reform a better place.  On criminal justice reform, your ideas like expand police officer training to help prepare them to deal with emergencies, work with minorities communities to find ways to reduce racial profiling, hire specialist of people with disabilities to work with police officers to find ways to help people with disabilities, hire women including minorities, and people with disabilities to work in the court system with law enforcement, and fund treatment programs to help drug users or other issues get the care they need.  On the economy, I like on how you expand on “San Jose’s Work”, a job-training programs to help youth including workers to develop job-skills to help prepare them for the workforce, reduce high fees on small businesses to help them be part of the community, help veterans including homeless people to develop job-skills to help them find jobs, and team up with different technology companies in Silicon Valley to create training programs to help youth including people interested in technological areas to help them develop different skills related to technology.   Another thing that I like about your work as Mayor of San Jose, California is how you are a strong advocate for social justice like the need for affordable housing to help low-income people afford to live, express the need to help protect immigrants including refugees from being oppressed,  and work on expanding programs to help people who are homeless get shelter along with medical care.

Mayor Liccardo, I have Autism with a learning disability and having a disability is hard for me because I have trouble comprehending on learning different subjects, sometimes I struggle to communicate my thoughts, and get teased. Your commitment to be a strong supporter of Civil Rights and be an advocate for people with disabilities’ rights really inspires me to work hard on my disability. Your work on reform on criminal justice and on social justice motivates me to continue to learn the need for criminal justice reform and make social justice a better place by reading different articles and watching different documentaries.  Another thing is your work as Mayor of San Jose, California motivates me to continue my interest in learning history and social justice. My future goal is to someday teach these subjects to help emphasize the need to make Civil Rights stronger to reduce discrimination, have reform in criminal justice to make it work for the people while reducing crime, the need to make social justice a better place, and many others.

Mayor Liccardo, I strongly believe that you are making a great difference in your role as Mayor of San Jose, CA. I’m very proud on how you work hard on reform, make education reform a better place, advance on Civil Rights, and many others when there are challenges.  You have truly inspired me to work hard on my disability, continue my motivation to learn history with social justice, and to work hard when I face different challenges.  My letter is a gift to you for inspiring me and to help you continue to be motivated to continue to make a great difference. Thanks for taking the time to read my letter, continuing to work hard when there are challenges, and inspiring me. I wish you well to continue to make a great difference in your role as Mayor and to continue to advocate for great ideas to make society better. I hope that I can get a chance to meet you to learn more about your work.

Sincerely,

Matt Winick
